Community Service Programs
Our commitment to serving the community is important to everyone at Walker Systems Support. Our goal is to always contribute to the greater good, with a focus on the impact our actions have on our world. We realize we are part of a wider community and approach all our initiatives with an eye towards achieving a balance between business and doing good. Walker is a Social Enterprise and as such, operates in an environment of integrity, excellence and financial transparency. It is ingrained in our business model and affords us a more direct method of contribution. The following illustrates some of our community programs and outreach efforts.
Our Programs:
Walker Systems Support Foundation
We will dedicate a minimum of 5% of our profits to be spent on charitable programs which meet our criteria. For more information or to submit a request, please email

Walker Pro Bono Work
We will allocate a number of billable hours each year to pro bono efforts for nonprofit organizations needing help with special IT Projects. For more information or to request pro bono support, please email

Walker Volunteer Time Bank
Each employee receives a bank of hours that can be used for volunteer organizations of their choice. For more information or to request volunteer support from Walker Systems Support, please email

Social Enterprise Trust (reSET)
Social Enterprise Trust is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization started by Kate Emery, to help transition Walker Systems Support into a Social Enterprise. The reSET mission is to promote, preserve and protect Social Enterprise. While there will always be a place for the traditional approach to business, reSET believes that there will be an increasing demand for socially conscious businesses, and wants to help demonstrate that this model is not only much more deeply satisfying to work for, it is ultimately more sustainable and often even more profitable than the more traditional approach.

Outreach:
Food Pantry
“It feels good to serve people down on their luck and to hopefully be a part of something good in their lives. It’s a tough world out there!”
~
Walker employee’s response to their recent visit to the Farmington Food Pantry
Two Walker employees head to the Farmington Food Pantry the first Tuesday of every month. Our crew is there to help stock and organize the food as well as provide assistance to those who depend on this organization for food. The organizers of the Farmington Food Pantry are a hard working and dedicated group. We are honored to be a small part of the service they provide this community.
During the months of July and August, donations to food banks slow dramatically, but the need doesn’t.
In partnership with our valued clients, Walker made a commitment to help the Farmington Food Pantry during their leaner times. In August 2010, we coordinated a Food Drive with our clients to collect non-perishable food items, cleaning, laundry, health and hygiene products.
Walker picked up the donations and delivered them to the Food Pantry.
Scleroderma Walk
Walker employees participated in The Tri-State Region - Scleroderma Walk on Saturday, June 12th 2010. This was more than just a fund raising event for Team Walker, it brought Walker employees together to help a co-worker whose family member is courageously fighting this disease. Our goal was to support a member of the Walker family and to help raise awareness about Scleroderma.
For more information about Scleroderma visit www.Scleroderma.org or the

Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen
In September 2010 a group of five Walker staff had the pleasure of working with the dedicated staff at the Loaves & Fishes soup kitchen in Hartford CT. Beyond being an eye opening experience for some, it was a wonderful way to really talk with and serve those in most need of a kind word and a good meal. Walker has been working with this organization for several years and looks forward to continuing this partnership.

Community Outreach Focus 2011
Our community service and outreach team strategy for 2011 focuses on three key areas: Youth, Environment and Animals (Y.E.A.) our projects will involve various forms of outreach in these areas.
Here are the plans for 2011:
Youth
Working with the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford and Master Artist Matt Wood, Walker will coordinate several mural projects at the Boys & Girls Club Hartford location. Matt Wood will develop a curriculum that will allow the youth to plan, design and execute several large scale murals. Walker in addition to coordinating the effort will provide assistance in all facets of the project.
Environment
Walker’s team of green minded outdoors folk will be working on various projects throughout the year. Check in for their latest trek into the great outdoors!
Animals
Our amazing animal team has already been hard at work helping out our furry friends collecting gently used linens to benefit H.O.P.E. Spay/Neuter Clinic in Waterbury, CT and Protectors of Animals dog and cat shelter in East Haven, CT. The linens are used to make the beds and recovery areas after the dogs and cats are spayed/neutered and also to line the cages to help make the dogs and cats comfortable.
